I fixed my Airplay issue (black screen, video failing, etc.) by uninstalling Soundflower extension. I loved that extension as it could capture audio from a web page, but it now seems to break AirPlay.

Hope this helps.

Hi all! (Sry, I'm not allowed to make new post...)

Two hours ago I'd updated from El Capitan to Sierra. Nice. But with getting new version of OS X I'm getting the AirPlay issure...all my life ruined, can't work, can't think, becoming angry and etc.

I'm using iMac+AirPort to get music on reciever. Just selecting in audio outputs AirPort and I'm happy.

Music plays from browser. I got list of track in social network - after one track finished another start playing automaticaly - and next track sounds from internal speakers... if I manually (in browser! not iTunes or some another player-app) press next track - the same magic, output device changes to default.

I just want to stream sound via AirPlay how I done it for 2 years, all the sound, all-all-all the sound from my Mac to AirPort and only I want control on what output should be sound.

Please, give me some advice what I need to do in setting or make fix. Because it's really horrible. The computer make decisions there he don't need to do them.

PS: I saw nearly the same issue on GitHub, but it was about track change in iTunes.

My specs:

iMac MC814

AirPort Express A1264 (7.6.7)

Chrome 53.0.2785.143 (64-bit)

Latest Apple TV and s/w with ipad mini 2, iphone 6s and imac late 2012. airplay works fine with ipad and iphone, problem is the imac can only send sound or video (eg itunes, quick time) but no mirroring (eg safari, desktop) just a black screen and the system sound. I tried every support document available. After a couple of frustrating months i started contacting Apple support, we have retried all the steps available with no solution. Then captured system diagnostics for mac, apple tv and wi-fi network and escalated all data to developers-engineers. We are waiting end of week for their findings as to what causes the problem and a possible solution or work around. I'll let you know as soon as i hear from them.

Same issue here. AirPlay works for iOS devices, and works for me on Sierra, but only from an app (like iTunes) not from the OS (ie. System Preferences/Display or the AirPlay icon). Opened a case with Apple Support a few days ago. I'm clearly not the only person seeing this and they're looking into it. When I do try to choose my 4th Gen Apple TV to AirPlay to, after a few seconds, it says "Could not connect to "Apple TV" (where "Apple TV" is the name given to the Apple TV. Reboot clearly doesn't do it for me - wish it did...

That list shows Mac Mini Mid 2011 or later... I believe this is the same list shown on the Apple System Requirements page, but is incorrect. I have a mid 2011 Mac Mini with Sierra and a Apple TV (2). System Preferences/Displays shows Airplay Display: OFF and will not let me turn it on.

The Airplay icon shows in the menu bar, but shows "Airplay: Looking for Apple TV...", then "Airplay: OFF", and eventually displays the warning: "could not connect to Apple TV".

Also, now in iTunes, the devices area is blank; does not show the Apple TV or any other device, ... used to, until Sierra.

iTunes is v12.5.3.17. Shows the new choose speakers icon; just no devices below the volume slider bar.

It worked fine on this computer before Sierra! And it still works fine on my Late 2011 MacBook Pro, and iPod Touch 5.

Looking for suggestions. I've tried everything I've seen on these related forum notes. All devices are on the same network/router (home use).
