Date Modified vs. Date Added - help needed

I'm running 10.11.6 and have noticed that if I change the name of a PDF file within the Finder (i.e. I do not open the file to do this), the file info is updated under the Date Added column in the Finder, but not in the Date Modified column. Is this correct behavior?

OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

I rename a file in the Finder, the modified date, the created date and the added date DO NOT change.

The added date changes if I move the file to a different folder, though.
