iPod
Q: iPod Touch cannot play certain mp4 files
I have some home video captures that my iTunes will not transfer to my iPod Touch claiming they cannot be played on it. The videos play in iTunes and I do not see anything unusual in file type.

An mp4 is just a wrapper for a video files. There are many variations in the video files that can be wrapped into an mp4 file. iTunes can play more variations than the iPod.
I recommend using the free Handbrake computer app to convert the file
That app has preset for outputs specifically compatible with iPods
