Q: iPad email icon has 9,000 emails by it!

The night before last when I was going to check my email using my iPad (iOs 10) I almost fell out of my chair when I saw how many emails it supposedly had for me (9,000).  Funny thing is it didn't have that many at all, but one of my 3 email addresses which I was checking had the password/username all messed up. I have spent almost 5 hours trying to get to the bottom of it, to no avail.

The email system I am using in this instance is sbcglobal.net (Yahoo). But when one goes to yahoo to reset things like a password/username it refers one to att.net.  I use to have a UVERSE account, but stopped that several years ago.  The email account was a free one offered by them but serviced by yahoo.  In trying to check with them they told me they couldn't help me as I wasn't a customer any longer-or words to the EFFECT.

Does Anyone Anywhere have Any ideas about this debacle?  Thank you in advance.......

If you get rediected by Yahoo to AT&T to change your account password

It appears the accounts are linked and you'll need to change it from there

Since this is a Yahoo issue, you would need to contact Yahoo support

They are of no help. One gets sent to the att site to use their online help suggestions. That put me in many looks for a long useless bit.

It seems hopeless as ATT does not support it any longer for folks who aren't using their software any longer.

Yahoo was the company that was hosting the ATT's email effort back then. I made a lot of progress getting back into my sbcglobal.net email account.

BUT it did not do away with the 9,000 email number beside the icon on my iPad.  I did reset the iPad as well.

Here is how I managed to finally, after days and hours of searching for info to lead to to recover my password and change it.

"I found the page that gave me a telephone number for UVERS problems.  I use to have a UVERS account, back when I first got my sbcglobal.net email address. So I took as chance and went to this URL:    https://www.att.com/contactus/index/internet.html?tab=1

ON that page scroll about half way down and there are 6 phone numbers. This worked for me, but be prepared to identify yourself with some of the items you started the account with in the first place like account holders name, address, security questions if you can recall them and the 4 digit number you chose when  you set up the account."
