Q: Started with a flashing folder, now what

Hello everyone recently my MacBook Pro 13 inch from July 2012 started acting up. It would shut down on me an often times when powering up it would give me the Folder with ? in it icon. I tried to boot from recovery to reinstall OS but the MacBook didn't see the hard drive, therefore I figured I had a bad hard drive. I had one out of a PC that I had upgraded so I put that in the MacBook erased it in Disk Utility but now I can't get any OS to successfully install. If I use internet recovery it takes forever and at the very end it ends up giving me a error about not being able to download additional components. Same result on wifi and wired. I tried installing Sierra from a USB and that errors about after a few minutes.

From what I read online there have been some issues with Internet Recovery and more than 4 gigs of RAM. Well my Macbook has 4 gigs and pretty sure its the original RAM. Would there be an issue with using the hard drive out of a PC even though it's been formatted on a MAC?

Anyone have any advice as I would be so grateful as I need this MacBook up and running for school.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

When you "formatted" the HD, did you just format it "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"? If so, you'd need to select the Media line and create one new partition, click Options and give it a GUID Partition Table Partition Map Scheme and then format the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). That process changes it from a Windows drive to one fully compatible with your Mac.
