Can my iPhone GPS track an automobile trip

Do you mean that you want to keep a record of the trip? Like on a map? Or do you just want to track something like mileage?

I use a device called "Automatic" that plugs into the ODB port on my car. Depending on what you want to do, it may be an interesting option.

It looks as if a couple of the apps in the list SON1NIJA mentioned may do that. But I've no experience with them.

I like Automatic. It plays nice with IFTTT.com so I can automatically log data to a Google sheet, send it to Evernote. But, the maps could be better.
