Screen dims when I put a stickie over the front-facing camera on my iMac

When I put a paper over the camera on my iMac (to ensure privacy) it dims the screen brightness. How do I correct this?

I'm running Yosemite 10.10.5

I want to cover the front-facing camera on my iMac to ensure privacy at all times.

I put a sticky note pad on it and then my screen completely dims.

How do I fix this?

Thanks!

If yo look closely at the front facing camera you will see the camera and a photo cell which detects light. It is very close to the camera lens and is used to detect light levels for the lighted keyboard and to adjust the screen brightness.

This is the case with my Macbook Pro. If you place the sticky over the camera and not the photo cell your screen should not dim.
