Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Community! I understand you're having trouble with your Mail app closing when you're trying to use it. I check my email throughout the day, so I can understand what a nuisance this can be. I'm happy to offer some suggestions here.
You can follow these steps to try closing out of the Mail app and then try re-opening it:
Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't already, I also recommend to try restarting your iPhone, as this can resolve the issues that you mention.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you're still having trouble, then I recommend to try removing the email account, then delete the Mail app. Once you delete the Mail app, you can reinstall it from the App Store and add your account. You can find the steps for deleting and re-adding your email account below:
- On your computer, sign in to your email provider’s website to verify that all of your email is there or check if your email is saved somewhere other than your iOS device.
- On your iOS device, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Tap the email account you want to remove.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Add your account again.

Cheers!
