Q: Early 2011 MBP booting into safe mode
For some time now, my early 2011 15" MBP has been booting into Safe Mode about 3-4 times a week. In Safe Mode I run Disk Utility and reboot. This time it starts normally.
I thought it might be a software issue, so when macOS Sierra was released I did a clean install - only to find it still happens.
I have a 5 year old Samsung 830 SSD installed, and Disk Utility always says Volume appears OK. However, it also says it cannot be repaired, only checked.
Am I just going to have to bite the bullet and get a new SSD? I was hoping to hold off for another years or so when I can afford to get a new MBP.
Are there any solutions short of spending $50 or so on some hardware checking software?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Richard
