Why does iTunes 12 shuffle my entire music library

I recently updated to iTunes 12 on OSX and whenever I am trying to just play a single album, the entirety of my music library shuffles and plays instead of the desired album. I have turned shuffle off on repeat off, but it continues to do this. How do I fix this problem?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

very odd. try restarting macbook (it wont delete anything) and then open itunes

It has done this for several weeks since updating to iTunes 12. I cannot get it to stop, I have to go to "Up Next" every time I play a new song, and "clear" the shuffle list for me to play the album, its very annoying.
