HI, since I bought my phone a few months this ago I have never been able to use the Touch ID. When I turn the phone on a message is shown the screen that reads 'unable to activate Touch ID on this phone' I thought downloading the latest software might fix the problem but it hasn't. If I take the phone to a Apple Store with they fix the problem/swap it for another?

Jailbroken?
Damaged?
Have you done any troubleshooting, and if so, what have you done?

I got the same issue after upgrading to iOS 10.0.2 and can't figure out what is causing this and then went back to 9.3.5 through Windows 10 pc using iTunes. I do have 9.3.5 installed as iOS in my phone but still having same issue 'touch id failed'. My handset is iPhone 6 with 9.3.5 version ....Any solution to that ?
I had the same problem also. I called Apple and they ran a scan on my iPhone 6s plus and the touch id failed. They swapped it out for a new phone.
If you have never taken it to an outside vendor to repair, then I would highly recommend that you take a trip to the Apple Store to see what they can do for you.
