Error occurred while communicating with scanner-9923

Was working fine through image capture. Now I get an error message that computer is not communicating with scanner (-9923) . Can print just fine but can no longer scan. I tired reloading image capture, but nothing is working. I have a Lexmark PRO205 and I'm running on OS X El Capitan 10.11.6. Any suggestions
