Q: How to make sort "oldest first" work?

Some time ago I was on a snorkeling trip.

I took some photos on the beach with an iPhone 5s.

And I took some photos underwater with a rented camera in a special (Panasonic DMC FT2) plastic case.

I create albums by events, to sort my photos. No memories. No smart albums.

In the "Presentation" menu (or however it is called in English - I have French), I go into "Sorting" and "Sort oldest first".

I get a couple of iPhone pictures from 01:50 pm.

Then a load of Panasonic underwater pictures around 11:55 am.

Time on the iPhone was right for the location (Malaysia).

The Panasonic time is also right.

I do not understand why it does really sort oldest first.

Does the sorting really work with the time shown in the info pane. It does not for me. Maybe a time zone issue?

Did you some else experiences this problem? It search but was not able to find a similar issue.

Regards

When and where did  you import the photos to Photos?  Did you take your MacBook Pro along to Malaysia and import the photos while still in the Malaysia timezone? Or did you import the photos after returning home?

Ids you import photos while being in a different timezone, Photos will interpret the the Panasonic timestamps as a date and time in the timezone the system time of of your Mac is currently set to. The safest way to deal with timezones in Photos is to import the photos while you are still in the timezone where you took the photos.  If the photos have GPS tags assigned, as for your iPhone photos, Photos will use the timezone of the GPS tags.

Use the command "Image > Adjust Date and Time" to shift the time of your Panasonic photos to the timezone of Malaysia, if you imported them while being somewhere else.

Thank you léonie, you are right: I actually imported the photos on my MacBook Pro back home in France, as I did not take it along with me.

I do have a few hundred Panasonic pictures, so I would like to avoid changing their time via the info pane. I just posted another question on how to do batch changes.

    You are welcome

I replied to your follow-up question here:  Re: How to batch change capture time?

I usually take my MacBook Pro with me when traveling. This way I can add titles, descriptions, keywords while I still remember where I have been.
