Sep 30, 2016 10:10 AM in response to rielfromst.paulby octopi,★HelpfulMix your song. Do NOTHING for volume. Leave headroom when you bounce out to stereo. DOn't squash it, don't normalise it. Just get the best mix possible.
Bring that stereo file back into a new Logic project.
Apply mastering techniques.
Bounce out again to final required audio spec.

Sep 26, 2016 9:45 PM in response to rielfromst.paulby Edgar,I hate to break it to you, but audio production is not a cooking show where you can learn a few receipes and you are ready to make scrambled eggs. This is something that requires a lot of knowledge, know-how and experience. The web is full of those nonsense articles/videos that promise you "five steps to get a great mix", "best ways to improve your mix" "do the mastering yourself". That stuff has often as much value as a "get rich quick scheme" or "lose 20 pounds without exercise".
There are no shortcuts in life. If you just want to play around with those great tools like Logic or any other DAW to create your songs or beats, that's fine. However, "Mastering" is such a buzz word nowadays without people knowing what it is, what is does, and why they need it. And most importantly, why they don't need it. People talk about all these "mastering steps" as new voodoo magic unicorn stardust secrets and then explain how a eq or compressor, limiter works, stuff they should know before opening a Logic Project, before mixing a song.
If you do all your stuff yourself and you mix your song, then mix your song so it sounds the best as it can be. You don't need no extra "Mastering", just because it is hip to do. There are many reasons when and why songs need mastering and there are amazing engineers out there they know how to do mastering.
Just applying "during mastering"an eq or compressor to a song that you just mixed makes no sense, if you could apply that in the mix already.
My advice, forget about mastering and learn how to make your mix as good as possible. Mastering is a bout tweaking an already great mix. If you mix is not great yet, then you don't need mastering, you need to re-mix it or get a sound engineer who knows how to mix a song.
