el capitan - numbers, pages can't open files anymore

Heyo, since apple released the 4.0 Update for Pages, Numbers & Keynote I'm not able to open my documents on El Capitan anymore. No matter if the document is from a old backup (long before macOS and 4.0) or a document I did 5 days ago - it won't open the document and tells me to download the latest version, that is not available for El Capitan.

I cannot update to macOS Sierra because of my other software I'm using for my job (Adobe CS6 doesn't work either)

So what to do? Will there be an update for el capitan too? Should I delete all my documents? You serious apple?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

You are attempting to open a Pages v5 or v6 document in Pages '09 via the Open file chooser. It will tell you that you need a newer version of Pages, but in reality the v5 and v6 documents are simply incompatible.

Actually quit Pages '09 from its application menu, and then just double-click the same document(s) that would not open in its open chooser. These will then open in the most recent version of Pages v5 or v6 on your Mac.
