Thanks for posting on the Apple Support Communities. I see that after updating to 10.11.6 you are no longer able to send SMS messages from your Mac. I know that I love sending iMessages and SMS messages from my Mac. I will be more than happy to help.
Take a look at this article:
Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support
In particular, take a look at the Set up SMS and MMS messaging part. Lets make sure that both your Mac and iPhone are using the same Apple ID under “Send and Receive.” Then on the iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding. Find your Mac, and turn it off, then restart your iPhone. Once the iPhone is back on turn the Text Message Forwarding back on.
