Sep 27, 2016 12:34 PM in response to ThndrSvnby Leschy,★HelpfulSame here with a MacBook Pro early 2011... problem seems to be depending of the new "messages features" which you can use in iOS 10.
Starting messages app, the internal GPU is used until I get a message with one of these new messages features. Then the GPU switches to the discrete AMD GPU and keeps working with it until i quit messages app.

Sep 27, 2016 12:36 PM in response to Leschyby ThndrSvn,I just tried it and you are correct. They seem to trip the switch in GPU and it never goes away. And to expand on what you said, if you restart messages, the same new iOS 10 messaging can be displayed and it doesn't switch. It only seems to be the delivery of one. Frustrating.

I hope Apple will fix this in 10.12.1. Couldn't understand why using discrete GPU for these new message effects.
