Q: I'm having intermittant problems with iphoto importing from iphone ever since the 0sx 10.11.6. update

I'm having intermittant problems with iphoto importing from iphone ever since the 0sx 10.11.6. update -

1. iphoto doesn't see iphone - restart

2. iphoto sees iphone but says "no photos"  - restart

3. Iphoto sees phone and photos and i click import all or import selected - then I get file format issue and nothing is imported

NOTE: I'm having similar issues with image capture - sometimes it sees the phone and photos and sometimes it does not

I have a 2015 imac - running yosemite

Help because my new iphone 7 arrives today and I'm terrified of the transfer.

Not sure but in any case iPhoto is a dead product - it would be really smart to learn Photos (a totally new and  different program with a learning curve and different work flows)

Using Photos with my new iPhone 7 and iCloud Photo library everything works smoothly with no issues - nothing different from Photos with my iPhone 5S except new features and better quality Photos

My mistake - I meant photos - not iphoto - I'm having tons of problems - trying to restore to iphone 7 - going on 6x now with no luck - also I meant el capitan not yosemite  :-(

Is iCloud Photo Library enabled on your iPhone with the setting "Optimize Storage"? Then you will get random results on import, since many  photos may not be in the Camera Roll but in iCloud.

Image Capture and Photos can only import photos that are currently in the Camera Roll.

With iCloud Photo Library enabled on the iPhone use iCloud to transfer the photos to your Mac.
