Poor Reception iPhone 7 Plus

Hi,

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 7 Plus and I am getting horrible reception, people can't hear me or I sound muffled, (I had no issue on my 4S or 6 Plus). My provider is the same, Bell Mobility in Canada, and I'm using the phone as I did the others, there is also no case on the phone. I've noticed the signal bars all over the place at times, I know those are not an exact science but they've been very erratic. For the most part I can hear whom I am talking to, but people have a hard time hearing me, has anyone else noticed poor call reception on their iPhone 7 Plus or have a fix for this issue?

Thanks,

JD

Unfortunately I feel the same way about Apple. I have 4 phones in my family. 2 sevens, 2 sixes (actually an old 5c too). The sixes at my house show 3 bars with 3G or LTE. The 7's are 1 or 2 bars with wave lines. My brother in laws Samsung has full service. If an update does not fix this, or if Apple does not admit a problem, I will move to Android

My iPhone 6 had good reception, and now in the exact same location in my house, my iPhone 7 is awful. I have to call people 5 times in a row just to complete a phone call. And I'm upstairs next to 2 windows in a mid size city. Apple, of course, plays dumb when I ask when this will be fixed.

I just talked to a VZW rep and he said he had the same issue! He can't get Verizon signal in Verizon's call center!!! This is ridiculous!

Hi. I was having this same issue for at least 2 months. I just got off the phone with AT&T and we fixed the issue.

I have a micro-cell M-CELL. I am on an iphone 7Plus. Since they implemented wi-fi calling, you really no longer need the M-Cell.

so, I just unplugged mine and Voila! it worked. The issue I was having was that every time someone called me, the reception was awful at the beginning of the call and go better after a minute. This issue is now gone. Your (dots) bars will go from 5 down to one or two when you get off the M-Cell and only use Wi-Fi calling but she said that does not matter. The service is 90% better without the M-Cell just using Wi-Fi calling.

If you need help setting up the wi-fi calling, it's super simple.

Go under Settings/Phone/Set up Wif-Fi Calling/Just slide the toggle over. That's it!

Good luck

I took my phone to An Apple Store and they ran diagnostics, said my phone came back fine and that the case I'm using was blocking the antenna...she said when the new design removed the headphone jack the antenna was moved internally...she suggested I buy another case, use my phone without a case, or call my mobile carrier and complain that they need more towers...I explained I never had that issue with my Galaxy notes and my kids never had a problem with their iPhone 5's & 6's....I lost both parents 6 days apart and had an unreliable phone for me to stay in contact with my siblings and family...I regret switching back to Apple...if it wasn't for the Note 7's problem I would never had came back to Apple

The biggest mistake I made was trading in my 6 plus for the 7 plus. I can't ever make a call while driving. I drive over 200 miles a day. I do a lot of business calls while driving.

I have called Verizon and Apple about this issue and I get no where.

I would love to go back to the 6 plus that was the best phone ever.

Of course every time I ask what they can do to put me back with the 6 plus they change the subject and will say let try this.

I HATE THE I PHONE 7. I wish they could just make and offer and help out to go back to the 6 plus.

I have the same problems this community has complained about. This is my second IPHone Plus, and the reception is just horrible. The person on the other end cannot hear me. Further, sometimes the speaker does not work. And, we need another plugin for charging so that we can use the phone in the car while it is charging. One plugin is just not enough. I am in my car a lot, and i want to be able to use my ear buds AND charge my phone at the same time. I do not want to use a blue tooth because i am concern about that technology vis a vis those types of waves near my head. I understand that the second plugin had to be discontinued because Apple wanted a waterproof phone, however, most us are capable of not getting our phones in the water and we need a second prong or plugin for charging while we are using our head-buds in the car, for instance. Kindly improve this model, because it does not function properly as a PHONE. Many of my friends who have this phone have the same problem, and they are disbursed throughout the 48 states in the United Stated States from East to West Costs. This is really a very big BIG problem. Please fix! Thanks so much.

I have an iPhone 7. I bought my wife one too. My 3 kids have twp 6's and a 5c. My Apple-centric friend changed the signal bars on my 7 and one 6 to numbers at my house. Our deduction: The 7 changed where the antenna is (internal) on the phone. The 6 had a much better signal. My friends with Samsung phones are full strength. (All at my home). I turned on wifi calling for my home, the Verizon store suggested a WeBoost for my cars. ($200 each). My next phone will be an Android.

My next phone will be a Samsung. The 7's antenna was moved internally. I had someine show me last night, at my house the cell signal in numbers, a 6 gets has 3 bars, 7 gets lower than LTE 1 bar, and a Galaxy is full strength at my house (on Verizon). The Verizon store rec'd a weBoost for $200 in my car. I turned on wifi calling for my home. Sorry Apple, this is a real issue and I am no longer going to spend all this money on your brand. By the way, the cost if technology goes down over time

Does the Apple team have a response to the following article? https://www.extremetech.com/mobile/237984-iphone-7s-with-intel-modems-struggle-b adly-in-low-signal-areas

From the article: "...the Intel modem drops off significantly as signal strength weakens. Cellular Insights tested multiple LTE bands (Band 4, 7, and 12) in a 4×2 MIMO configuration."

Are phones covered under "no lemon" laws. The article clearly shows the case is not the issue as all AT&T/T-Mobile phones are affected. Are there plans to replace iPhone 7 phones with new 8 versions?

Yep. Yesterday I swapped my iP 6 for an iP 7. Sitting at the same desk in my house, by the same window on the same network, there is a huge difference in reception. 4 bars of possible 5 on iP6. 1 of 5 on iP7. The iP7 came out of its box 24 hours ago.

It's shinier and faster (yay) but it's not performing its core duty.

I just had an important call and had to go outside to take it. I live in Canada, so for 6 months of the year that is not an option.....

Curvy screen Samsung here I come folks.

PS I work in mobile networks and know exactly what I am talking about....no Apple tech support can tell me about blocking functionality on the air interface. The antenna is crap lads. Crap.....

I wrote the same thing a while back about the terrible reception I get Witt my iPhone 7 and how I have been an Apple fan since the 80s. Apple just took my comment down. So how many comments from people who are upset because they can't use their phone properly for its main function...talking on the phone.

I can hear people but they can't hear me. I constantly lose reception. My iPhone 6 was fine and all of my kids who have old iPhones or Androids can talk on their phones just fine.

Apple needs to do a recall!!!!

Apr 29, 2017 2:04 PM in response to jdtouchie

Omg yes!!! I only ever have one bad. My friends and family get so annoyed because they cannot hear me and if they can it goes in and out. I reported the problem to att and they did some trouble shooting and couldn't find the issue. I've had my phone over a month and before this phone i had no issues. Full service. My husband works offshore and he would call me from his iPhone 5 and never had a dropped call or muffle to the sound. It's definitely not att. It is the phone. I'm so annoyed with it. I tried contacting apple and they pass the buck. Saying it's my location or my home causing lack of bars. I explained to them that's not possible because I have lived here for years without issue and my husband who still has his 5s has clear constant reception and all bars.

So what do we do? Apple won't acknowledge a problem that probably every iPhone 7 user has. Why does Apple not acknowledge the problem? Why no recall and replacement? I would gladly go back to iPhone 6. I have a 2nd iPhone 7 in a box I got Dorn my husband. He wants nothing to do with it. He can't afford to not have a functional phone since it doubles as a business phone.
