Q: watchOS 3 sos contact (with phone#) greyed out

I'm trying to add a couple of contacts to my SOS list in WatchOS 3:

I can't add my dad because he's greyed out, even though he's got 2 phone numbers and one email on his card.

I understand only contacts with phone number will appear in bright white, and those without should be greyed out, but that's not the case here...

Only ones that can receive a text are the ones that will appear. What happens is after the SOS call, a text will be sent to the persons that you have selected, up to 3. About SOS on Apple Watch - Apple Support

If you look at the screenshot of the contacts, it states it delivers a message.

    Thx Chris

In my case, I finally figured out that another card (from my Exchange account) was associated with my Dad's card.

Go into Contacts, search for the name, Edit, Go at the bottom of the card and there it was, another card associated (but that card from Exchange had no phone/email address)

Now all is good and I was able to add my Dad's card in my SOS contacts

    Cheers

Sounds great. I've got my set for my wife and two kids. One of these days we will have to test it when I have time to go down to the local 9-1-1 center and they are not busy.

... testing it by going down to your local 911 center?... Hmmm first I've heard that was even possible... I'll have to investigate if there is a "local" 911 center close by, because I too would like to test that feature

    Thx

It may not be available at all of them, and I, fortunately, have an "in". I used to work there.
