I don't think I had another version when I got it and also probably had it before the crash but I don't remember.
I've checked my updates and I don't have any updates available :-(

Sierra should be listed under the Featured section of the Mac App Store

SInce neither Yosemite or El Capitan are no longer available from the Mac App Store and you have not previously downloaded them, if you go to an Apple store they may be able to download EL Capitan for you since that is the last version your Mac will run.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.
Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
One place you can get a replacement battery.
