Q: Audio suddenly turns VERY BAD

Hello,

 

Recently I was listening to SPOTIFY I'm a premium user, then the sound suddenly turned very low key and somewhat like a disc jammed and scary sound.  So I thought it was just my internet connection but then I tried listening to iTunes, and the same thing happens.

 

What I did was go to Preferences Sound Output and just click other options and select the original one again.

It started to sound normal but I'd like to know if that is normal? There are no loose wires or anything. I even cleared my cache.

iMac with Retina 5K display, iOS 9.3.5

    Not normal, but if it happens again...

     

    Long shot, but...

     

    Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.
