Q: Mac Mini 2010, 2.66 GHz, SSD, 8GB ram, which OSX version?

Hello!

I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM and a Samsung SSD 750 EVO to my Mac Mini mid 2010 (2.66) that has been lying on a shelf for a while. I plan to install the components this weekend, and wonder which OS you recommend that I run on this old, albeit upgraded device.

Will I experience better performance if I run 10.7-8 or should I just install the latest version of OSX?

Regards,

Haris

You have to find out first what OSX is possible on this mac mini. Having 8GB of Ram is enough for all OSX so far.

MacMini Mid 2007, for example, will have 10.7.5 as the latest OS possible.

MacMini Early 2009, the next one, can handle all including Sierra.

I don't have the same machine as you but would expect yours to run El Capitan and Sierra fine. My Mac is a 21.5 inch mid-2010 i-Mac with 3.06 GHz core i3 and 12 GB or RAM. It runs OS X 10.11.6 perfectly. I have not upgraded to Sierra yet but plan to shortly. However, it appears that machines of this vintage are going to reach an end point soon on OS upgrades.
