Q: Calendar re-sends invites to all attendees?

Calendar re-sends invites to all attendees when adding/deleting one attendee.  Is there a setting that turns this off?

    Hello jamesrorke!

Thanks for bringing your question about Calendar re-sending invites to the Apple Support Communities.  I rely on Calendar every day and I know getting multiple invites would definitely be annoying for all involved.  I'm happy to help you out today.

Re-sending invitations is not a feature of Calendar, so there's no setting to adjust.  I'd like to start by testing in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists there.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

If it does, then I'd also like you to try to create a new user and see if the issue persists there as well.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If the issue is system wide I would do a Time Machine backup, and reinstall macOS.

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac

    Best wishes!

Did I miss something?  Seems like you didn't read my question.  I'm trying to PREVENT Calendar from re-sending invitations to all invites when adding or subtracting a single invite.  I'm not sure simply un-plugging and plugging back in the proverbial OS plug is the answer.

    Hi jamesrorke,

Thanks for your response.  It's understood that calendar re-sending invitations is an error.  This is why we recommended the above troubleshooting.  Testing in Safe Mode will test if the issue is caused by a third party application or extension.  Testing in a new user will test if the issue is system wide or user specific.  Finally, reinstalling macOS can resolve the issue by putting a fresh copy of the operating system on your Mac.  Backing up your Mac is always recommended before reinstalling macOS.

Should the issue persist in a new user, and reinstalling macOS does not resolve the issue, the next recommendation would be to contact Apple Support so that an advisor can further troubleshoot with you.

    Contact Apple Support

    Take care.

    Thanks Becky,

Your explanation makes sense.  I will try that, although this is a behaviour of Calendar that I have noticed in the past.  Perhaps it's an Exchange issue - as I am on a work Exchange server.  I will test sending an invite out from each of my iCloud, Gmail and Exchange accounts to see if they behave differently.

How should Calendar behave?  I ask this, because I would expect that a change in the notes, or time, or location SHOULD resend the invite to all invitees, but adding/subtracting someone should not.  Correct?

    Thanks.

    Hi jamesrorke!

You're right, Calendar should only resend an invite when there's an update in time, location or notes.  It should not resend invitations simply because you've added or removed an attendee.  It's possible that each calendar service provider can treat attendee updates differently.  We look forward to the results of your testing.

    Cheers!
