Q: I am trying to use migration assitant to transfer files from 2010 macbook to 2015 macbook air.

I am using wifi. Both computers are able to find each other, confirm the same sharing number, and connect but when files are supposed to start transferring a message pops up on macbook air stating that no connection can be found. Can someone please help me? both computers are updated to os x el capitan software. all apps are updates as well. I turned on internet sharing and created my own network but that didn't seem to work.

MacBook (13-inch Mid 2010), iOS 10.0.2

If both computers are similar, most of my (now deleted) reply would

not apply. A good backup, clones, Time Machine archives, and

duplicates of copied items are minimal suggestions.

Have you tried to use a wired Ethernet connection between Macs?

Not sure if your models may support Target Disk mode, if so that

would do OK for one to look into the other's drive for files to copy

over. The automatic migration isn't the best if you are upgrading

to a newer OS X, since the older applications can cause problems

in the new system. Unsupported software can slow a newer macOS.

Since I re-read your thread (again) interruptions aside, I saw my errors...

    Good luck in this matter!
