Q: How to upgrade my Maverick to Sierra from the external drive

I have Maverick on my Laptop and I downloaded the Sierra to my External Hard Drive. How can I upgrade my Laptop HD (Maverick) to Sierra (from external HD)? I tried to go back to Apps Store but the Sierra has indicated that it is already downloaded.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

First, running the installer from an external drive will be slower.
You should copy the installer to your internal drive and run it from there.

Since you've already downloaded the installer, "Install macOS Sierra" should be in your Applications folder. Assuming your external is bootable, boot it and run the installer with your internal as the target.
