Q: Downloaded Sierra, but it still says I have El Capitan

From App Store downloaded Sierra (7 hours) when finished it just said it would restart and up grade. I let it do its thing and after it restarted most things look the same. But About This Mac says I am still running El Capitan. App Store says I have downloaded Sierra and won't let me do it again. It says I have definitely upgraded Safari, etc. with the download but mentions nothing about Sierra. AND how do you access Siri?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), DSL (att.yahoo) two external hard drives ,1000

Look in your Applications folder for the Sierra installer. If it's still there then you didn't run it.

Yes it (the installation app) was in the App folder. Ran it again. It still says I'm in El Capitan 10.11.6
The Installation app is still on my desktop, too.

The Sierra installer will "self destruct" when it is run properly. It takes about 30 minutes to install.

The installer in the Applications folder is about 4.77GB. Correct?

I thought so too. It took about 1 minute (even had a timer to show how much time was left) to come to the point of restarting the computer and that took its natural 1-2 minutes to restart. Something is wrong with the installer? Should I delete it and see if the App Store will let me re-download it?

Something may be wrong with your installer. Is it 4.77GB's in size? Right click on it to view the Get Info window.
Run the download while you sleep since it's so long and slow for you. Delete the installer in your Applications folder and look under the Purchases tab to download it again.

It says its 4.78 GB but only takes 1 minute to do its thing.

Restart your machine and run the installer one last time. If it only takes a few minutes something is wrong with it.

Deleted the installer and now the App Store is letting me re-download it. I've got nothing to do today so I'm just going to let it work on the download. Thanks for the help.
