Q: Sleep Mode Charging

It appears that my iPad's, iPods are charging when connected to the iMAC. Are they being charged when the iMAC is in sleep mode?

It depends on the USB port. Usually, when the computer sleeps, it cuts power to the port. But in recent years various manufacturers have set their ports to always be on - largely so they can be used to charge a phone or other device.

You can look in the specs for your computer to see what it says, or one way is to use something that is visible, for example I have a wired mouse with a light on it (the laser light in the bottom). Using certain ports when the computer sleeps the light on the mouse goes off. On other ports the light stays on.
