Q: Sierra + Magic Trackpad 2 = Force Click with one finger no longer works

Since upgrading to Sierra, is anyone else having difficulty with the Magic Trackpad 2 and using the force click to pull up definitions? If I switch it back to "tap with three fingers" it works, but "Force Click with one finger" does not. Actually, I'm not sure I can get that intermediate click response at any point that used to be present in El Capitan.

    Hey Lonnie Warpup,

If I understand correctly, you are using macOS Sierra and are trying to use Force Touch but it is not performing that action.
I would recommend you read these articles, they explain if your device supports the Force Touch, where the setting to enable and disable Force Touch is and how to adjust the sensitivity, and how to enable the Look up words feature.

The Magic Trackpad and Magic Trackpad 2 support all of the trackpad gestures available on Apple portable computers.

macOS Sierra: Use an Apple wireless trackpad

    1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    2. Click Trackpad.
    3. Click the "Point & Click" tab.
    4. Find "Click pressure" and adjust the slider to your preference. Note that the sound of the click changes with the click pressure setting.

To turn off Force click, deselect the “Force Click and haptic feedback” checkbox. This will disable the functionality described in the Trackpad preferences pane.

    • Look up a word: Control-click the word or phrase (in some apps you may need to select it first), then choose Look Up from the shortcut menu. Or tap the word or phrase with three fingers (if the gesture is selected in Trackpad preferences).

If your trackpad supports force click, you can set the Look Up gesture to use that instead of a tap. (To force click, press firmly until you feel a deeper click.)

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Have a good one.

I have no idea why it would not work the other day, but after adjusting the "Click" pressure from Light to Firm and then back to Light, it is working just fine now. Thanks for the nudge.
