How to bypass activation lock code

I have a friend who was given an iPhone 4 with the activation Apple ID and password but he had lost the paper with that information on it .he reset the phone and now he can't activate the phone because he lost the info. now he cannot contact his friend either because his friend moved out of state . how can we reset the entire thing to put a new Apple ID and password .
