1. Connect phone to iTunes on computer.

2. Press and hold the power button, volume down and home button until u see the picture connect to iTunes.

3. Follow prompt on computer to update or restore iPhone. (I chose restore)

4. Then it says iPhone recovery mode and iTunes is downloading the software for this iPhone and will restore your iPhone when the download is complete.

My old iPhone 5 accidentally ran into the Apple logo stuck today. After updated to iOS 10.3.3 in DFU mode, it appeared to fall back to the old problem for quite a while before falling into this "press home to upgrade" stuck. My solution was to 1. press home; 2. try to connect it with iTune on my computer and press "try again" in the dialog box; 3. press home again. Then it turned into iPhone passcode and the whole upgrade was completed. Although the new system appears to be awkward for me, I am still happy that my old set survived the crisis without losing any data. Maybe it's time for me to have a new iPhone 7s 🙂

I had a similar issue with my 5c last night. My home button died about a week ago when I was replacing the battery. I started using the virtual home button through that I set up through the iphone setting. So last night I decided to update the new software OS X, what i did not realize is that OS X takes away the swipe option and replaces it with the press home button option in order to unlock the phone. So the phone was stuck at a white screen asking me to press the home button to enter the pin to unlock it so it could complete the update. With the home button dead I was stuck with no other option. I read through all other threads and there was no post the gave me hope to fix the problem, finally I decided to reopen my phone and in between the home button and the home button circuit board (inside the phone where the home button rests when you press it), I figured there must be missing some kind of incomplete electric circuit, so I decided to get a small paper foil and placed it in between the home button and the circuit board and to my surprise it worked after putting the phone back together again and pressing the home button I was asked to enter my password, and the update completed. I was so luck in that after that the home button died again, i started using the virtual home button again. My advice either do not update if your home button is not working or if you do, first remove the password.
