Q: when I sync my ipod touch with itunes only the first song is downloaded and then it sits for hours

When I try to sync my ipod touch with iTunes, only the first song seems to be downloaded, then it just "hangs" for hours

What if you try to not sync that first song and the following song?
What is listed n the status block of iTunes when it freezes?

I have deleted the first song and it still will not move past the problem, It eventually "times out"

Backup to iTunes and restore from backup
