Q: Slow Internet Connection

I have an iMac, iPad & iPhone.

The iMac is loaded with ESET Virus Software which when installed very slightly slowed internet connection speed - this slowing was acceptable.  My recently purchased BT Hub 6 is located within a couple of feet of the Mac.

The two mobile devices show no slow down in connecting speed however in the last few weeks the Mac has started to hang-up on numerous occasions whether using Wi-Fi or Cable Connection to the Hub.  In fact on occasions whilst the Mac is still 'thinking' about connecting the iPad has completed access to the same required site.

I wonder if any recent automatic ESET Virus Database update could be the source of the slow down - I can't imagine the Hub 6 being the cause as my other two Apple devices connect perfectly.

Any assistance gratefully accepted.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), Fusion Drive

Uninstall ESET. It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit.

Thanks Eric for that speedy response.  In tandem with my Communities query I emailed ESET - they suggested that I update to their latest version of Cyber Security for Mac ... this I have done and hey presto back to the normal Mac speed.  (Seems that their notification of version changes had not come through to me, possibly by changes to OSX versions).

Understand you questioning the value of ESET on a Mac but I must say that when first installed it it located and dealt with many 'issues' both on the HD and on the Time Machine back-up.  Since then regular checks have failed to locate any 'unwanted' items.
