Apple Watch crown ring stiff and won't turn

The crowning on my 42 mm apple sport watch became stiff and difficult to turn. A small piece (0.25in) of a rubbery strip protruded and I removed it. The crownring freed up. Is this an issue? should I do something? if so what?

Do not allow your watch to get wet now that the gasket from the Digital Crown has become detached.
