iOS 10.0.2 major bug!

I just updated my iPhone 6+ with the iOS 10.0.2 last night.

Problem 1:

Ever since then, my texts keep freezing. In the middle of sending a new or a response to a text, the keyboard just freezes up. The screen freezes and I just have to press the home button to get out of text. Once I get back in, my original half typed text is no longer there and I start over again. Then it freezes again.

This happens about 80% of the time!!! Very frustrating!

Problem 2:

Ever since my recent update, when I go to a browser form and start filling in the details, the browser/keyboard freezes.

The screen freezes and I just have to press the home button to get out of text. Once I get back in, my original half typed text is no longer there and I start over again. Then it freezes again.

This happens about 90% of the time!!! Very frustrating!

Problem 3:

Ever since my recent update, when I go to any of my apps that have a form to fill out content or answer a question (i.e. Maven), the app freezes half way through me typing

I just have to press the home button to get out of text. Once I get back in, my original half typed text is no longer there and I start over again. Then it freezes again.

This happens about 100% of the time!!! Very frustrating!

I am shocked by KiltedTim's reply that there are no bugs in 10.0.2. (Isn't it a bit early in the life of 10.0.2 to declare this?) I have exactly the same problem described above. I called phone support and started a case, and was told that no one else had ever reported this problem. Hmm. Seems the same problem is reported by people on this Apple discussion. But I listened to the Apple help line and did everything I was told, steps as outlined by KiltedTim above - backup, restored as a new device, then restore again from my iCloud backup. I've done this several times and the keyboard might work for 10 minutes and then it becomes non-responsive. I have to reboot to get it to work again, and then it often freezes again in just a few minutes. I can't even go to voice dictation. I can't search for Contact or search the web or sent a message or write an email. It's very frustrating. The closest Genius Bar is more than an hour away. I suppose I should have waited for 10.0.5 after the bugs (that supposedly don't exist) are fixed.

I respectfully disagree with your generic opinion.

What I have described above is absolutely a bug and is very frustrating.

I updated and as a result even the native apps and functionalities of my iPhone have failed!

I call that a bug! You seem to call it normal behavior that is random and requires rebooot/restart/reset all of which are no help.

Thanks for sharing your opinion anyways but it's not a factual solution to a bug.

And I'm shocked at your apparent inability to read and comprehend simple sentences. I said no such thing. I suggest you go back and read my post again.

Then you did NOT do what I suggested, or what Apple told you to do. Restore iOS and set it up as a new device. Do NOT restore your backup. You can set up your iCloud account on it, but if it's still experiencing problems after restoring your backup, it's likely there is a problem or corruption that is contained within your backup. Restoring your backup will re-introduce the problem.

KiltedTim, I DID do exactly as you mention to no avail. I DID NOT have the issue of keyboard freezing up until AFTER the ios 10.0.1 and 10.0.2 updates. So with that being said, my question is, is Apple aware of this issue? My brother who has a iPhone provided by his employer has been told to NOT install the updates due to the issues of keyboard freezing until Apple has the issue fixed and they tell them its ok to update.

Just got done with Apple Support on this issue, They are aware of it and one POSSIBLE cause is the "memorized dictionary" hanging up on certain memorized words. Their suggested fix was to go to /Settings/General/Reset/Reset Dictionary.

This restores dictionary to its default setting. One of the things that happened to me was when I typed in a "memorized" word like Appt. instead of appointment it would lock up every time or trying to use the back key to erase that word. So far so good sense I reset the dictionary to default. I will update this if this isn't the fix.

Possum53 - Thanks for posting this glimmer of hope. I've tried everything several time, including removing everything and starting up as a new phone - restoring NOTHING from my backup and just entering my iCloud password, letting the iPhone populate. This means I have no history of chats or calls, but I really need a phone that works.

So you can imagine my joy at seeing this possible suggestion... So I tried to do this… my option at the last step says “Reset Dictionary Keyboard” which I guessed was the same thing… but when I clicked on that option, it asked for my password and when I tried to enter the first number of my password, everything froze… 2 times!! GRRRR Then I have to reboot my entire phone. Very frustrating.. but I will keep trying.. Thanks again Possum53

So, it was corrupted data, not a bug in iOS 10.0.2.

Tried it ALL and still nothing. Personally I think it's TOTAL BS that it's the individual phone, more than an Apple way to create obsolescence so you will be FORCED to upgrade your device once the Genius Bar people can't "fix" your problem bc its a "phone issue".. and it *****, because although I qualify for the upgrade I wanted to wait until 7s since I heard about a lot of crap about the 7 that the "s" version will probably "tweek out"... so this is total ****.

I have better things to do in my life than sit in an Apple store waiting 20 mins (at least) past my appointment time to be told that I have to upgrade my phone bc it can't be fixed... I don't understand WHY after nearly a month of releasing 10.0.2 because so many of have so many problems with it, they are DENYING that any one else has reported said problem as another poster mentioned.

They are about to lose a very large number of long time loyal customers by releasing "updates" before they are thorough tested for bugs etc. I doubt this is what Mr. Jobs wanted to leave behind!!! He'd NEVER tolerate this! He'd have development work 100 hours a week if need be to create an update ASAP to fix these issues so not to endanger the loyalties of long time Apple device users!!! He'd NEVER tolerate "customer service" telling Apple product owners that NO ONE else reported said problems and would've had an update available in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS....

Unconscionable on the part of Apple to pull this with their long time Apple product customers like many people on this thread, if they don't release an update for this issue soon, I qualify for a phone upgrade with my carrier and if I get told after my Genius appointment that the only way to "fix" the issue is to upgrade my phone; I will switch back to ANDROID in a hot minute!!!!

Sorry KiltedTim - Like others I too have this most annoying problem. I've been onto Apple support and advised to do all you suggest. All done and STILL issues. Oh, how I wish I can revert to iOS 9.x. This issue is certainly causing me to consider moving away from the iPhone. Freezing in all areas, web searching, texting, composing emails, rebooting 4 or 5 times a day... So, so bad. In fact dreadful. I check twice a day to see if a new version of the iOS has been released. Now, in the past few days I cannot even answer inbound phone calls.

I consider this gross negligence by Apple.

Oct 14, 2016 3:51 AM in response to dicamillo

Hi Dicamillo - In my family we have at least 12 Apple devices of which 5 are various iPhones. Mine is a 6 as is my wife's. We are both on 10.0.2 and for some strange reason she does not have the horrendous issues I have. Our 3 children have not moved to iOS 10.x so they are all still OK. If Apple would enable those with issues a path back to iOS 9.x, that would at least be a fix albeit not a solution... but they don't. Looks like it is going to be an Android for me too unless this is fixed in the next week or so.
