Trouble with files after Sierra upgrade

Installed Sierra 10.12 4 days ago on my IMac 2010 which was running Lion 10.7.5 did not do a specific backup to the external hard drive running on time machine assumed that the last back up should be sufficent.

1 Problem is that my 15,000 photos now present themselves by date instead of being filed in events as they have always been.

2 Mail appears to of lost several mail boxes that I had installed in the margin for quick drag and drop of interesting tech issues and info.

3 I have a photo stream drop down after a couple of days that will not go away it just keep reappearing do not no what I would even need this for.

4 Have never used the cloud but am contemplating purchase of iPad and dumping my old non Apple laptop likely with the 128 GB capacity.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

About a year ago, Apple switched from iPhoto to the new Photos App. If you have Photos related questions I would recommend re-posting in that forum. The link to it can be found by clicking Photos for Mac

Regarding your mail, try rebuilding your Mailboxes and if that does not work, you may need to re-create the mailboxes you previously had.

Regarding the contemplated purchase of an iPad, did you have a question or was that just a comment?

Thanks for the quick reply will try your link on the iphoto issue will try that.

What do I have to do to rebuild the mail boxes?

The ipad is both a comment and a question, feel that the 32 GB is to small but the 128 is quite large seems that they do not offer anything in between. My desktop computer is away overkill for what I use it only has mail photo's storage and files stored some that are quite large that I call on regularly for tech information for International club members

To rebuild the mailboxes, open Mail - Select a mailbox - Mailbox Menu - Rebuild

Repeat for each MB.

As far as which iPad, remember iPads and Macs run different operating systems. This doesn't mean they aren't compatible, they totally are but each has different apps. For example, when you buy 1Password (a password manager) you can have access to all your passwords on both the iPad and Mac but you need versions of the app for each device.

You likely will use iCloud for storing your photos, this means you can have all of your photos available to you on each device. Depending on the size of your Photos library, this will help determine the amount of iCloud space you need to buy. Apple provided 5GB for free but after that you need to buy storage. My Photos library is 100+GB which costs $2.99 month for the 200GB plan.

Regading the iPad's capacity, think about how many apps are on your phone and if you will be storing other large files like movies. This will help determine whether a 32GB is enough or if you need more.
