Q: Major iOS 10 Stability Issues

I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air. Both devices are having the same problems.

I'm having numerous issues with applications crashing and more importantly the devices constantly are entering into a soft reboot state where the phone appears to restart all of it's processes showing me the spinning circle for a few seconds. There is no method to how this happens, sometimes I'm just writing a message or going to a website. I could be browsing a map or scrolling through Instagram and the phone will just restart.

I have tried doing a full DFU restore thinking that would solve the problem and it didn't. I'm running the latest version of iOS 10.

Is anyone else having issues like this and do you have any idea of how to fix it?

iPhone 6, iOS 10.0.2

So you walk into a hospital and you see that 10% of the patients have the flu, does that mean that the rest of the general population has the flu?

Not to mention the fact that every one of them is ill in some way. Does that mean that the entire population is ill?

Thank you, Sadly I have been noticed that my post got taken down for developer only content. But anyway even if I did not know about 10.1 I would still assume that this issue would be fixed soon! Most likely the update following the original add ons as 10.0.2 only fixes a small amount of problems where as a full .1 would fix a large amount . We have seen this happen before.

SO please people, yes your devices are crashing and soft rebooting but it is not as simple to sort an issue out on day 1 of a release to the world. Please cut some slack to the poor software delreopors at Apple who are working their socks off right now. I can assure you that these issues will be fixed ASAP but for now all I can say is sorry.

Thank you for brining these issues up , I have again passed them on though the software feedback area.

    Will

Are you sure it is not software corruption?

Yes.  And support confirmed it with a remote check of the zsW.

Just to update. My problems with an iPhone 6 running iOS 10.0.2 continue. I have done both soft restart and Hard restarts on several occasions. I have also done a complete Factory Reset to as new using iTunes and not a back up. This took half a day to do with all the apps etc that had to be downloaded again.

The same problem of soft restarts and then sticking on Cellular rather than using our home Wi Fi continue. I have no idea what to do next. This has to be a problem with iOS 10, 10.0.1, 10.0.2 as the iPhone 6 was working excellently on iOS 9.3.5.

Cellular vs home WiFi: Unless the phone is plugged in it will always use cellular when the phone is asleep, because WiFi is turned off to save energy when the phone is asleep. All versions of iOS have worked this way since day 1.

You also need to check the setting for WiFi Assist under Settings/Cellular. If it is on the phone will use cellular any time the WiFi throughput is lower than LTE throughput.

Thank you ! I had just discovered that myself and adjusted Wi Fi Assist accordingly so Cellular will not work at home.

Still, of course, leaves the main problem of the Soft Resets.

The soft resets sounds like a hardware problem. Unless it always occurs using the same app; then that app may have a bug that only surfaced with the new version of iOS.

The way to test that is to make another backup, then restore as New and don't reinstall anything. If the problem still occurs it's most likely hardware. If the problem is gone you have a misbehaving app. You can then restore the backup and try to pin down the app.

I mean a hardware problem that was hidden until the phone was updated. Or that occurred coincidentally with the update.

After four soft resets this morning I went ahead and did as you recommended. The iPhone 6 has been running now for approx 5 hours with no problems. That would suggest to me the installation of iOS 10 as you suggest has uncovered a bug within an app.

I will give it another 24 hours just to make sure the iPhone 6 continues to work properly with no soft resets. If all is OK i will then restore the back up i made this morning and try and track down the App that appears to be the problem.

See post above. I gave it 24 hours and there were no problems so I did the Restore to bring up all my apps and data. Within five hours of the Restore I had a Soft Reset. So now the hunt for the offending app begins. I live in hope that iOS 10.1.0 will help me.
