Persistent memory problems

Both in OS-X and now in macOS Sierra V10.12, every few minutes my Mac slows and Activity Monitor shows at least one and sometimes up to three "Installer" processes running -- each consuming at least 1.5 gigs of memory. Obviously these put the Memory Pressure indicator in the red zone. When I force-quite this/these processes the memory pressure returns to the green (all the other processes each use 500MB memory (except kernel at 750MB) or less). Killing the Installer process(es) doesn't seem to adversely affect anything I've got running (typical set of apps: mail, calendar, contacts, messages, Safari (several tabs), etc.).

A few minutes later, up to about an hour later, my Mac again slows, I check the Activity Monitor, and find one or more "Installer" processes again running and consuming multi-gigs of memory.

I hope to understand what is causing the Installer process(es) to launch and consume so much memory -- and how to deal with it.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for your suggestion. I ran the report, pasted here below my name. At the top of the report was a list of several adware with which the etrecheck report said my Mac was infected. I used the etrecheck feature to remove those files; and will watch to see if the problem is improved. I'd certainly be very interested in any other problems indicated by the report.

Thanks again!

Don
