Sep 29, 2016 8:10 AM in response to Radaniel2by jameson.h,★HelpfulHello Radaniel2,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I see that you are having issues when you go to full screen mode in several apps. Let's begin by starting your iMac in safe mode. If you are unsure how to do this, see this article: Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up While this article addresses using safe mode for startup issues, it can also isolate the issue that you are having.
Best regards. -
Sep 29, 2016 8:21 AM in response to jameson.hby Radaniel2,Since posting the original question I have: Reset NVRAM, run First Aid from Disk Utility, reinstalled mac OS Sierra. Still unable to go to full screen. As per your suggestion rebooted in Safe Mode. Full screen worked OK. Did a normal reboot, unable full screen. What should I try now?

Sep 29, 2016 9:25 AM in response to Radaniel2by dwb,Safe mode starts the computer with a bare minimum of extensions. Since full screen worked there but not when you boot normally, you must have something installed that isn’t compliant with Sierra. Download and run EtreCheck, then paste the results here. That should let us see what you might have installed that’s causing the problem.

Sep 30, 2016 9:05 AM in response to Radaniel2by Allan Jones,Oh my--you have some well-known suspects installed that must be removed:
1) Uninstall Trusteer End Point Protetion/Rapport--it has NEVER worked without penalty on Macs. Instructions here: http://www.trusteer.com/support/uninstalling-rapport-mac-os-x
2) Completely uninstallCleanMyMac. It is scamware, doing nothing beyond what the MAC OS has evolved to do routinely. See How do I remove Clean My Mac from my computer?
3) Although much of the Maintain software is not loading, it is over three years old. My recommendation is to run without it. Cocktail was a valuable tool in the early days of OSX but the Mac OS has greatly grown in its ability to care for itself, making once-useful tools like Cocktail and Onyx largely obsolete for today's Mac user. If you need to keep those, at least check with their developer to see if they have a Sierra-complaint version.

Sep 30, 2016 10:03 AM in response to Radaniel2by John Galt,Skip System Files: YES - System files not being backed up
The effect of excluding system files will preclude the ability to restore your entire system from the Time Machine backup. I suggest you rectify that before continuing. Then, proceed with removing the garbage that Allan Jones explained.
"CleanMyMac 3" is a little easier to get rid of than its predecessor, but the effect of actually using such ill-conceived "cleaning" utilities remains unchanged — that is, it still might be necessary to completely erase that system and reconfigure it, due to the destruction they are capable of inflicting upon it.
