Very slow wifi when bluetooth is enabled since iOS 10

Hi all,

since the update to iOS 10, the download speed of my wifi (2.4GHz) on my iPhone is very slow when bluetooth is enabled.

When checking my connection speed using the speedtest-app, I get around 5000kB/s with bluetooth disabled and around 50kB/s with bluetooth enabled. In fact, I can see my download speed drop instantly when enabling bluetooth during the test and increasing when disabling bluetooth. The iPhone is connected to an Apple Watch via bluetooth.

Upload speeds are unaffected and stay constant at around 300kB/s (limit of my connection).

My iPad connected to the same network (also running iOS 10) does not show this behavior.

I called Apple Care support and they told me to rest my network settings and reset my router which I did. This fixed the problem only temporary; one day after the "fix" the old behavior returned. Now they are telling my the only option might be a reset of the iPhone to factory defaults which I would like to avoid.

The issue started with the update to iOS 10 and did not disappear after upgrading to 10.0.2.

Anyone else experiencing this issues or any clue on how to fix this?

Thank you!

I have an Apple Watch and have been struggling with this slow speed connection since day one without a solution (very disappointed.. Apple used to be an outstanding company with great customer service).

I’m not sure if I understood you, but I want to add that in my case using the 2.4ghz router signal is impossible with bluetooth on, BUT I can use the 5ghz signal with bluetooth enabled and speed is normal. (The problem is signal is very short range).

It all started after pairing my apple watch. Before that I could use BT headphones or any other devices without problems.

This only happens in my home though. When I travel I never have problems using the watch/wifi connection.

Thanks for your explanation, I will start working tricks around based on it.

By the way, where the **** is Apple on this issue? It’s been around for way too long

My problem is certainly worse at home. And I've seen others report the same. But I see a small impact at work (where download speeds go from 100 Mbps to 90 Mbps.) Not sure why.

Apple is busy selling other devices I'm sure. They are surely aware of the bug, but either cannot fix it, or it is not important enough for them to fix in front of other bugs. What is important to us is not necessarily important to them.

You at least got me this far. I have been messing with this for hours and when I came across this; I turned off my Bluetooth and BOOM my wifi is back. With my Bluetooth enabled I get basically nothing on my download speed and my upload is completely unaffected. Hope they fix this soon!

I also have an Apple Watch and want my Bluetooth enabled even at home.

Hi There,

since very recently I started noticing the same issue. When enabling Bluetooth, the WIFI drops to 0.4Mbps and without Bluetooth 48Mbps. I tried forgetting en reconnecting wifi networks, resetting network settings and nothing worked.

I also have an apple watch. I tried putting the watch in airplane mode and enabling Bluetooth on iPhone (with no devices connected) and still wifi speed is dropping.

Now I just updated to iOS to 10.1.1 but it did not fix the issue.

Next steps:

try resetting without deleting (No success)

try update to 10.2 beta (public beta)

try complete reinstall of iphone

call helpdesk

I will update the progress
