Q: Set a key for an apple loop of tuned kick drums in Logic Pro X?
I have a library of kick drum loops that are all tuned. I would like to convert them to Apple Loops so that they will pitch themselves according to my project key.
I drop one into my project and set the project key to be the same as the kicks in the loop, then control-click the region on the timeline and say "Add to Loop Library...".
The loop that is created has tempo information but no key attached, so "play in song key" has no effect. However playing the kick with a tuner inserted on the channel strip clearly shows a pitch.
Dropping an audio clip of something melodic on the same track and adding to the loop library with the same process does attach the project key to the loop.
How can I ensure that my loops created from tuned kicks retain the project key so that they will be in tune with future projects?
