Loading OSX on 2014 macbook air issues

Hey guys, dude brought this unit to me stating he had bought it used from someone who had deleted the private info and was told that he needs to enter the password to get to desktop. Thing is, no matter what he tried he cannot get to desktop, I am thinking the OSX might have been erased whether accidentally or not. I also think the password he got from the seller is a hard drive password and not a osx password. As the first screenshot shows, looks like this unit had come with Yosemite and wants to go the Apple to reinstall it but when I try to do so it is showing an error. I tried to do a restore but getting an error showing "The startup disk can't be used as a restore source.

As this 2nd screenshot shows, it is showing that the I can do a restart "using the recovery system" but I am not sure what to do here, any ideas please?
