Phone contacts in favorites messed up since i0S 10

I Have had favorites in my phone since I got it. A few of my favorites have multiple phone numbers. It used to allow a choice of which number is the first preferred number by using the arrow and chosing. However that function no longer works. I have turned off the phone, edited the contact, and even deleted and re-added to favorites.

I believe you are referring to Favorites in the Phone app.

Click "Edit" in the upper right. Then you will see three stacked horizontal lines to the right of each favorite phone number. Simply raise or lower by dragging on those three parallel horizontal bars and you can place the phones in the order you like.

This feature has existed for many versions of iOS.

Let's examine your screen shot, which appears to have three sections, with (1) on the right, (2) in the center, and (3) on the left.

  • Pick the correct person from (1), which you seem to have done.
  • Choose "Call" from (2), so you get a telephone number instead of an email address in "Favorites".
  • Click on "Office" or "Home" in screen (3), so you get the correct phone number in "Favorites".

OK. On screen (2), when you select "Call", note that "Office" displays in your screen shot. But there is also a downward arrow displayed on the far right of that row.

Be certain you tap on that downward arrow, so you can see "Mobile". Then tap "Mobile" to place that into your Favorites.

I would say except for occasionally missing this down-arrow myself, I can always select the telephone number I want.
