Q: cannot join 2ghz airport extreme

Hi,

I recently changed some settings on my network. I have 2 airport extremes and 2 airport expresses. They were all setup to extend the network. I changed them so that they each broadcast a unique Wifi name so I could tell which one I was connecting to. They are all wired so this was not an issue. Everything was working fine. I could join all of them again.

Today I could not join any of them, unless I blanked out the password on the airport, but I like a secure network. I reset to factory and redid the devices with slightly different network names so that my laptop would not get confused. I also deleted the previous networks from my wifi advanced settings on my laptop. Now I can join a 5 ghz network but I cannot join a 2ghz network even though they use the same password.

I have tried reboots, resetting to factory, turning laptops and airports off for 5 min. Checked the firmware and it was up to date.

Not sure what to try next.

Thanks,

Will

Make doubly sure no airport is extending.. all should create a wireless network.

Run the wireless diagnostics on the laptop and post the scan .. you will find this under the window for diagnostics.. which in and of itself is fairly useless. Worth running once for the heck of it.

A scan might show what is going on.
