Since upgrading to Sierra, the dock becomes unresponsive

After upgrading my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) to Sierra, the dock becomes unresponsive (i.e. doesn't respond to any mouse clicks/hover) after a few minutes of use.

I've removed all Login Items and ensured there are no unnecessary processes running. If I force quit the dock it becomes responsive after the process restarts. Then after a few minutes it again becomes unresponsive. This seems to coincide with the fan noise. I tried a PRAM and SMC reset but this hasn't helped.

Everything else is responsive (desktop/menus/spotlight, siri, etc).

Dock sits at about 147% CPU utilisation.

I'd be grateful if anyone has any ideas as to what I can do to further troubleshoot. Thanks in advance.

The report doesn't show anything out of the ordinary but it does not look like you are backing up your computer. If you are not, please begin immediately as eventually you will join the ranks of people that suffer lost data and wonder how they can get it back. You don't appear to use Time Machine, this is the most easy method of fully backing up your computer and only requires an external HD to do so. TM is pre-installed on your system.

However what I would recommend at this point (after doing a full backup of course) is re-installing OS X in the Recovery Partition. This is not intrusive, meaning it will not overwrite your data. Simple boot into the Recovery Partition (Command + R on startup) and install OS X.

Back up your Mac if you have not done so already. To learn how to do that please read https://www.apple.com/support/backup/. To learn how to use Time Machine read Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

Then, shut down your Mac and restart it in "Safe Mode". To learn how to do that please read: Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up. Compare how your Mac works in Safe Mode to how it has been.

Then, restart normally. If the same problem returns, please read the section If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode for Apple's recommended actions.

Finally, you can temporarily create a new User Account, and log in to that account to determine if the problem also exists when logged in to that Account. To learn how to do that read How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. When you are finished troubleshooting, you can remove the temporary User Account by following these instructions: macOS Sierra: Delete a user or group. Before removing it, confirm you don't need any of the files you might have created in that Account.

Let me know what you determine.
