iMessage Delivered but Not?

Since the ios10 update anytime I imessage my husband on my iPhone it goes through, he answers we text back and forth, everything fine. Then a day later, I get a bunch of notifications saying that delivery failed on all of our iMessage texts? It's on with him, I haven't had any issues with any other contacts? We don't have the same apple ID's, and I had him update his phone last night to the new iOS thinking that might be it, but today I received more notifications saying that all his iMessage texts were not delivered? I've turned off my iMessage, restarted my phone and turned it back on and it still happens? Help? I'm not sure what I should do?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 10.0.2

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I understand your messages have been coming back as failed even though you have confirmed they've been received, and I'd like to help. You were off to a great start with the steps you've tried to far.

From here I'd recommend signing out of iMessage entirely by going to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap on your Apple ID and select sign out, then restart your phone and sign back in.

If the behavior persists, or you run into any trouble, the entire community is here to help.
