How to calculate total calorie burn on Apple Watch

So I'm new to the Apple Watch (just bought the Watch 2, 42mm) and I got it mostly as a feature rich activity tracker (my Polar Loop finally hit the bed). I'm used to being able to view total calories burned throughout the day but the Activity app just shows Move calories (which happens to coincide with Active Energy on the Health app on my iPhone). Is there a way to simply view total calories burned (active + inactive calories or in the health world TEE + RMR) or do I have to use the Health app on my iPhone and manually add active energy + inactive energy?

For assistance with the Polar Beat app not syncing activity as expected, I suggest that you contact the app developer:

Hi

Whilst it is not possible to view total calories on Apple Watch, the information is available via the Activity app on your iPhone:

On your iPhone, in the Activity app: when viewing the Activity data for any given day, swipe sideways on the Move chart > the app displays both Active calories and Total calories for that day.

Thank you for the reply. That is helpful. A follow-up issue I have is that the active calories burned during my workouts are not aggregated into the Move (active calories) category and thus not counted in total calorie burn for the day. I'm using a Polar H7 heart rate monitor and the Polar Beat app (which is linked to my Health App). For example, yesterday my total Move calories are logged at 493/500. If you look at the active calories burned during my two workouts, Mixed Cardio (300 active calories) and Strength Training (263 active calories) that is a total of 563 active calories from the workouts alone. I've attached screen shots to help explain. How do I get my workout active calories burned during my workouts to be included in the Move category and thus included in the total calorie burn for the day? Honestly, this is a little frustrating and disappointing. When managing weight health (whether trying to gain weight or loose weight) calories in versus calories out is a very important metric. This seems to have been overlooked by the Apple Engineers.

Another user has previously reported a similar issue under watchOS 3 (individual totals not tallying with that day's total).

I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance, taking advantage of your 90 days of complimentary technical support cover:
