iPad not connecting to known home wifi after iOS10 upgrade

Since I upgraded my iPad Air (1) to iOS10 it won't communicate with my BT Infinity router over wifi. I am using the latest BT router (6 series) and everything worked perfectly up until the upgrade.

I have restored the iPad and reset the router. Initially, the router reset worked, but as soon as the iPad went to sleep, it wouldn't reconnect.

Any ideas?

setting - general - reset - reset network settings, will need to reenter known wifi password.

This sounds like the issue I am having. Both devices I updated are giving me a No Internet Access message when I try to connect to wifi. Other devices in the house are connecting fine, or at least as well as they have. Previously it was sometimes necessary to restart a router or a device to connect, but I have done both several times with no results. I have also reset the network settings as described and still get the No Internet Access message, even when standing right next to the router.
