I have updated my iPhone with ios10.0.2 and when i click on messages, the message app crashes. I tried going into Settings and select 'messages' and it crashes there as well. Has anyone encountered this issue? Thanks.

I see that you updated your iPhone to iOS 10.0.2, and now when you click on the Messages app, or Settings > Messages, they both crash. I certainly wouldn't want that to happen. I want you to be able to use the Messages app.
It seems that the Messages app and Settings are not responding like they should, so I would like you to try and force close both of these on your iPhone. Please use the following article to force close both:
Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Once you've closed both, please try and open again, and see if you get the same result.
