Q: ipad pro charging icon acting strangely.

Ever since iOS 10.0.2 was installed when I charge my iPad Pro 9.7" the icon on the upper right seems to act differently.

Before the iOS update when I plugged the cable in the icon would change from the percentage text and a white bar for the battery to a green bar and the charge would progress (both the text would update) and green bar move. When 100% was reached the green bar would change to white and underneath it would say not charging.

Now it seems the green charging bar works fine, up to 95%. Then if the iPad goes to 'sleep', when I wake it up it shows NOT CHARGING, but it did as the text usually is higher than 95%? If I pull the cord and re-insert it, the bar changes to green, but at some point it shows NOT CHARGING or the screen goes black and when woken up it says NOT CHARGING.

However, once it reaches 100% now the bar STAYS Green? It doesn't turn white nor state NOT CHARGING?

I'm NOT using a standard charger, but an Insignia desktop charger. It worked for me for years without a problem? Even on this iPad Pro (and an iPAD 2 and 3 in the past).

Ideas? Was code changed to charge differently so as not to overheat the battery? Is my charger failing? It doesn't seem to charge the iPad any slower than before?

Confused...

Hi. They've changed the logic that monitors charging. As you say, everything is working as before. If you use the original charger it should behave normally, because it will be getting a higher current (quicker charge).

Thank you Diana. I suspected as much.

I should have done more 'research' before posting here. Wife has the same model iPad Pro and she wasn't have the same thing happen. She has a wall charger for 4 USB charging devices, 2 are 2.1A USB outlets. I plugged my iPad Pro into her 2nd 2.1A and that problem didn't happen. My desktop charge is no longer made, and eventually I found details on it and it is a 2.4A 'smart' charger. I guess it wasn't supplying enough amperage when the iPad started to reach maximum.

I'll not worry about it then, or use her USB charger.

    Thanks.
